Tacklist — Privacy Policy
In short: Tacklist keeps your notes on your phone. It has no account, no ads and no analytics, and it does not have permission to use the internet. We never receive your notes, your recordings or anything else you put in the app.
What the app stores, and where
- Notes, checklists and reminders are stored in the app's private storage on your phone.
- Voice recordings. When you record a voice note, the recording is saved on your phone with that note (Android 13 and newer) so you can play it back. If you turn off Keep voice recordings in Settings, the recording is deleted from your phone once its words have been written into the note (a recording that could not be turned into text is kept, so nothing you said is lost).
- Nothing is sent to us. The app has no internet permission, so it cannot upload anything.
The microphone
Tacklist asks for microphone access only when you tap a microphone button, and records only while the voice-note screen is open. Recording stops when you tap Stop, close the screen, or after about a minute. Tacklist does not listen in the background.
Speech-to-text
To turn what you say into text, Tacklist uses the speech recognizer built into your phone. When your phone has an on-device recognizer, Tacklist uses it and the audio stays on your phone. Otherwise Tacklist uses your phone's default speech service, which is provided by your phone's maker or by Google. Depending on that service and your settings, it may process the audio on its own servers under its own privacy terms. Tacklist itself never sends audio anywhere. You can see or change the speech service in your phone's settings (for example Settings → System → Languages → Speech, depending on the phone).
Reminders and notifications
Reminders and alarms are scheduled with Android on your phone. Notifications show the note's title or the checklist line so you know what the reminder is for.
Backups
- Export: you can export your notes to a file you choose. That file is yours, and it goes only where you save it. Voice recordings are not included.
- Android backup: if you have turned on device backup in your phone's settings, Android may include Tacklist's notes and recordings in that backup, stored in your Google account under Google's terms. We cannot see it. You can turn backup off in your phone's settings.
Tacklist Pro (one-time purchase)
Tacklist Pro adds extra paper colours and widget styles. It is bought through Google Play: the Play Store app handles the payment under Google's terms, and we never see your card or payment details. Tacklist asks the Play Store app on your phone whether your Google account owns Pro each time it starts, so Pro comes back after a reinstall; Tacklist itself still has no internet permission. If Pro is refunded, your notes keep the colours they have.
On iPhone
The sections above describe the Android app. Tacklist for iPhone works the same way, with these differences:
- No internet use. The iPhone app makes no network requests. Notes, checklists and reminders stay in the app's storage on your iPhone.
- Speech-to-text stays on your iPhone. Tacklist uses Apple's speech recognizer in on-device mode only, so your audio is never sent to Apple or anyone else. If your iPhone cannot recognise speech on the device for your language, voice notes are not available rather than sent away.
- Recordings are not kept. The iPhone app turns what you say into text and does not save the audio.
- Reminders are scheduled with iOS notifications on your iPhone.
- Backups: your notes can be exported to a file you choose (the same format as Android, so you can move notes between phones). If you use iCloud Backup, iOS may include Tacklist's notes in that backup under Apple's terms; we cannot see it.
- No purchases. Tacklist Pro is not sold in the iPhone app.
What we do not do
We do not collect, sell, rent or share personal information. There are no ads, no advertising ID use, no analytics and no tracking. There is no account to create.
Sharing into Tacklist
If you share text from another app into Tacklist, or ask your assistant to make a note in it, that text becomes a note on your phone and nothing more.
Deleting your data
Delete a note in the app to remove it. Its recording is erased from the phone shortly afterwards (the app clears recordings of deleted notes once they are an hour old, the next time it starts). Uninstalling Tacklist removes everything the app stored on your phone. Because we never receive your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
Children
Tacklist is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
